Driveway Pavers

Driveway Pavers

Your driveway sees a lot of traffic since you’re likely to use it every day. It’s the first thing that your guests see when they visit. A great driveway design can build a sense of anticipation in your guests and leave a lasting impression on their minds.

Your driveway doesn’t just need to look good; it also needs to be functional and durable. We at Outdoor Improvement have helped build several stunning driveways in our neighborhood of Eagan, Minnesota and the nearby cities of Minneapolis, Burnsville, Savage and Woodbury.

Our long-term clients in Eden Prairie, Saint Paul, Apple Valley, Lakeville and Maplewood have experimented with various designs. Some wanted to add drama and grandeur to their entrance, designing wide, curving driveways. Some of them were looking so more subtle designs.

Factors Influencing Driveway Design

Driveway Pavers

When you’re designing a driveway, there are several things you need to take into consideration.

  • Size: The size of your driveway depends on how much room you have on your property and how wide you would like your driveway to be.

  • Terrain: You might also want to consider the terrain. Steep slope, uneven surface with trees or rocks can affect its construction and shape.

  • Paver: The paving material used always plays a vital role in the design of your driveway.

  • Look: Would you like a grand entrance to your home or are you looking for something simple and discreet?

  • Garage: The design of the driveway can also be influenced by where your garage is located.

Driveway Material

Driveway Pavers

The material you use to build a driveway depends on your design choice, your needs and budget. The different types of pavers available are:

  • Concrete Pavers: Concrete pavers come in different colors and designs and when paving a large driveway, they’re a relatively inexpensive option. Many home owners prefer this material because it is durable and low-maintenance. There are different driveway options available with concrete. They are available in different sizes and shapes, allowing you to create unique patterns on your driveway.

  • Brick: Brick is also very popular, adding an old-world, rustic charm. Brick driveways are easy to maintain and repair but can be expensive in comparison. However, many people consider the price worth the design and aesthetic appeal of brick. It requires nothing more than washing with water and soap to maintain its look and color. If a brick gets cracked, it can be replaced easily.

  • Interlocking Pavers: These pavers have been around for many years and are very resilient and eye-catching. Interlocking driveway pavers are also permeable so the water penetrates the material to reach the ground below. The lock design keeps these pavers in place so they can be installed on dry ground easily.

  • Combination: Sometimes, homeowners opt to pave just a portion of their driveway with concrete pavers or brick, using gravel or even asphalt for the rest. One section of the driveway is paved with pavers and the other with some other material. This proves to be a more economical solution.
